When we value our individual talents, rather than strive to be one with the masses, we contribute to the diversity of our society. When we can find balance and honor ourselves, we lose the need to constantly consume “stuff” in order to feel normal or happy. Our world is rapidly changing; more and more of us are finding that “business as usual” no longer works. We are at a point in our history where it’s imperative that we trust our intuition and innate creativity in order to survive.

If we believe our own vision and drive are valid, then we would naturally want to take care of our world. If we feel that our ideas matter, then the desire to do “good” becomes even more powerful. My intention for “Writing the Energetic Body” is to explore coping with change, healing, and taking responsibility for our selves, our society, and our planet, through creativity and the creative process.

Journaling is a form of unfolding-- participants will benefit from a deeper sense of self-awareness, relaxation and compassion.

This seminar will use the major chakra system as the "backbone" for self-exploration through journaling. Creative visualization, gentle movement, sound, sensory stimulation, and writing prompts designed to wake up specific chakras will inspire a series of timed writings.

Writing the Energetic Body will begin by focusing on the first three, or "earthly" chakras, then the “fulcrum” heart chakra (the bridge between body and spirit) followed by the higher, or three "ethereal" chakras.

We will explore issues of survival and “the tribe”; pleasure, sexuality and emotions; our sense of purpose and personal power; and compassion and self-acceptance. We will open to love; clear communication and creativity; intuition and imagination; and understanding and spiritual connection.

Attendees will receive a final relaxation meditation at the end of the workshop.

No writing workshop or yoga experience required. Materials: Favorite pen, a notebook or journal, water, a yoga mat, and comfortable clothing.

The Bisbee Yoga Expo runs from Friday, February 12th through Sunday, February 14th. Post-conference: Monday, February 15th.

Thinking about the August New Moon

It's that time of month. The new moon rolls around and it's time to put intentions out there. As the moon waxes, energy builds on the wishes. Woke up thinking about things. It's time to ask, "What have I done/learned?" and "What do I want to do?" and always, 'What is for my highest good?"

The writing workshops at the Flagstaff Yoga Festival went very well. What a whirlwind! The first workshop dealt with the chakras that are more connected with our physical existence - and after it was over, I was TIRED! Grounded. Heavy in a way. The second workshop was dealing with the more ethereal chakras, the lines between them were less delineated. By the end, I felt light and energized. I was so happy to have ended the first with the heart and began the second with the heart. So much love flying around in that room I got goosebumps and felt close to crying.

Changes I'd like to make: Doing 7 chakras in one day is intense! I'd like to explore each chakra more deeply, giving more time to each one. More movement, more yoga, more meditation and sound. I had about 25 minutes for each chakra. I'd like to spend an hour or two with each one instead. So, perhaps spreading the workshops out over 4 days - 2 hours each - or 2 days, 3 or 4 hours each. (2 chakras a day, and the final day integrating it all or discussing strategies to continue on with the work - starting writing groups or blogs, etc.)

So, new moon intention on the workshops:

1. Expand the work
2. Talk with connections here in Flagstaff to set up a more in-depth workshop for the fall
3. Talk with folks in Sedona, Scottsdale and Tucson (San Diego?) for winter workshops
4. Talk with folks on the east coast for Spring/early summer workshops
5. Canyon workshops

I definitely need to promote my cd better. I was so concerned about my workshops that I didn't really promote my cd as I should have. On top of that, doing this on my own - all of it is new to me.

CD intentions:

1. Explore ways to promote the cd - be open for ways to get the work out there
2. Create graphics for better promotion
3. Feel good! I did it and it was fun to create.

I guess those are the big things on my mind. I'd also like to do the following:

1. Continue to expand my yoga practice by exploring through classes, reading, private practice, dvd's, etc. I may take the Chakra Workshop at 7 Centers in Sedona. (With that in mind, I must intend for more income to do that)
2. Open to new income streams
3. Expect unexpected checks - and have gratitude (this works!!!)
4. Healing for my body so that I feel even better than I did BEFORE the accident
5. Following a more formal schedule for my own writing, yoga, creative work
6. Be open for the perfect car for me.
7. Yoga workshops collaborating with Laura Brown
8. Workshops collaborating with Brad Olsen
9. Collaboration! More co-creating . . .
10. Have fun.
11. Remain open and loving in my relationships.
12. Explore ways in which Randy and I can see each other while he works in Wisconsin
13. Share Amazon Herbs
14. Check in with myself everyday: What is my Highest Good?

There's always more. Most importantly, act from love and compassion. I am so much happier when I see the world as a place filled with love.

This or something better is now coming to me easily and effortlessly for the highest good of all.

Yoga 5.1

I have only done yoga one time so far this week. It was great fun though. I taught a class in my office last night.

Actually, I always do some yoga everyday, just not always a full session.

On Monday and Wednesday I usually take classes, but instead, I rode my bicycle to and from work. That’s approximately 24 miles round trip. I feel pretty darn good!

Bio for Teaching at Mountain Waves Healing Arts Center

A country girl who lived for two decades in New York City, Holly moved to Flagstaff in the summer of 2007 for some much-needed mother nature. She has been a singer in rock-and-roll bands, a performance artist, a painter, a writer, a regular participant in Lakota ceremonies, a leader of masterminding groups, a waitress, a yoga teacher, an executive assistant and a college student. Although she still has a busy life, mountains, fresh air and a deeper focus on yoga and fitness keep her feeling relaxed and balanced.

Yoga was a necessity for health and inner peace while living in New York. Holly first seriously practiced at Jivamukti Yoga in 1994 with Sharon Gannon and David Life when she had a fortunate respite from work. In 1996, she completed Yoga Teacher’s Training at the Sivananda Yoga Vedenta Center in Woodbourne, NY. Since arriving in Flagstaff last June, she has been studying at Mountain Waves Healing Arts Center with Emily McRobbie. What Holly loves most about yoga is that she never stops learning. She is on a slow and steady path—and doesn’t mind if the lessons take lifetimes.

Holly’s interest in the chakra system and energy work also began in the early 1990s when she first experienced reiki. Around that time, her mother introduced her to Caroline Myss and Energy Anatomy. She found the connection between our energy systems and health fascinating. In 2007, Holly received her certification to teach the Usui Method of Natural Healing. She studied with Marion Leone Wanagi Wi and Geordie Numata.

Holly graduated magna cum laude from the City University of New York at Hunter College with a bachelor’s degree in Creative Writing and Art in 2004. Her teachers included Regina McBride, Jan Heller-Levi and William Pitt Root. After receiving her degree, she continued her studies with Nada Gordon at the Poetry Project and at louderARTS. Holly’s creative skills have led her to work as a freelance writer for Cosmoplitan Magazine as well as smaller presses, creating art and designing album covers for independent record labels, and leading creative writing groups. Most recently, her poetry is up for publication in two literary magazines, Night Train and Earth's Daughters.

Despite having many interests, Holly has found that as her life shifts and changes, she always comes back to writing. Writing is an act of excavating, an uncovering of layers and discovering our own depths and imagination. Many people view writing as a lonely craft. Holly believes that when we are present and honest on the page, we can take that experience into our lives and have richer, more dynamic relationships.

Holly is interested in exploring healing through the creative process. She believes that everyone is innately creative, and, if given a nurturing space to explore, may uncover long-forgotten talents or discover new ones. She enjoys combining her healing and creative work with a sense of playful curiosity, relaxation and fun. She calls this joyful openness to possibility Sacred Folly.
